Set tacking points automatically

Automatic Weld Head Tacking

Set tacking points automatically

The software enables the automatic and precise setting of tacking points, ensuring optimal alignment and preparation of the weld seam.

See how easy it is to set up this function.

In orbital welding, setting tack welds is a crucial step in preparing the weld seam. Tack welds allow pipe segments to be fixed together before welding, ensuring correct alignment of the pipes and enhancing both the quality and efficiency of the welding process. Additionally, they stabilize the pipes and minimize the risk of distortion. Ultimately, tack welds help ensure that the weld seam meets the standards outlined in the Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).

In our software, the automatic setting of tacking points can be easily activated and optimally adapted to the material and the desired tacking type. The operator has the option of setting between two and eight tacking points in a symmetrical pattern around the weld seam, which ensures perfect preparation of the welding process.

How it works

  1. Go to the welding program and select “Display Extended Options”.
  2. Then activate the tacking function using the toggle switch.
  3. Now you can set the direction of rotation during welding and decide whether the machine should pause for inspection after tacking, before starting the weld.
  4. Define the number of tacking points. The number and position of the tack welds will be updated on the screen in real-time.
  5. Adjust the settings for amperage, pilot current, and tack duration.
  6. When saving, confirm the tack weld parameters by clicking “Yes”.
