In orbital welding, setting tack welds is an essential step in preparing the weld seam. Tack welds allow pipe segments to be fixed together before the actual welding and ensure correct alignment of the pipes, which improves both the quality and efficiency of the welding process. They also stabilize the pipes and minimize the risk of distortion. Ultimately, tack welds help ensure that the weld seam meets the standards specified in the Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
In our software, automatic tack welding can be easily activated and optimally adapted to the material and desired tack type. The operator has the option to set between two and eight tack welds in a symmetrical pattern around the weld seam, ensuring perfect preparation of the welding process.
How It Works

Go to the welding program and select “Show Advanced Options.”

Then activate the tack function using the toggle switch.

Now you can define the direction of rotation during welding and decide whether the machine should stop for inspection after tack welding before the welding starts.

Define the number of tack welds. The number and position of the tack welds are simultaneously displayed and updated on the screen.

Configure the settings for current intensity, pilot current, and tack duration.
