Gas Pre-Flow Time

Setting the gas pre-flow time is very important in orbital welding, as it has a direct impact on the quality of the welding result. The gas pre-flow time is required to purge oxygen from the welding area.

With the correct setting of the gas pre-flow time, the efficiency of the welding process can be improved by avoiding unnecessary gas consumption while ensuring consistent weld quality. In this video, we show you how to operate the Flow Force function of our software and provide practical tips on how to increase the pre-purge flow rate and reduce the pre-purge time. Time savings, increased productivity, and clean welds are the result.

How It Works

  1. Activate the Flow Force function within the pre-purge section of the welding process by toggling the switch.

  2. Two new values appear: Flow Force time and Flow Force flow rate.

  3. To use the Flow Force function optimally, change the gas pre-flow time—in this case from 30 seconds to 15 seconds. Please note that the software automatically sets the Flow Force time two seconds shorter than the gas pre-flow time. In this case, the Flow Force time is automatically set to 13 seconds. This ensures that the increased gas flow does not disturb the weld chamber and returns to a normal flow rate before arc ignition.

  4. Additionally, increase the Flow Force flow rate—in this case to 45 CFH (21.3 l/min)—to ensure a higher gas volume flow during the Flow Force time.

  5. Save these values in the program. To do this, select Quick Save and confirm with “Yes”.
